Things change when a big dog becomes part of the family.
I realized that our front door glass was going to be smashed to smithereens
unless we took some sort of precaution.
The rambunctious Bruce-inator doesn't know his own strength
and he really likes to greet visitors at the front door.
These old shutters were the right width and just a tad too long,
but the additional length protects the mahogany from Bruce's grizzly claws.
I added my antique glass doorknobs and just a bit of AS Chalk Paint.
I'm searching for the perfect old latch, but added a simple screen door latch until I find it.
I can open the shutters anytime and the additional privacy it provides is great.
Not to mention the blocking of our Texas afternoon sun.
The most difficult part was convincing Magoo to hang them.
He didn't want to drill into the wood.
That was code for he didn't want to get up off of the couch.
Eventually he got up and he did a good job.
I'm determined to make that man do more around here.
Wish me luck. ; )

Bruce is the only pup tall enough to see out- he reports back to his commander.
She's satisfied that all is well.

ReplyDeleteAwww so cute! Love those shutters. They really look great on the door!
ReplyDeleteVery smart and creative. Love it!
ReplyDeleteBruce is so cute. We had a glass door similar to yours. It had a screen insert for summer. It worked well for Daisy. We realized Curtis was just going to bust through- so we never used it.
I wonder if I should have been more worried about the glass?!
What a creative idea! I LOVE the glass knobs.
ReplyDeleteYour dogs are so sweet. I'm glad that they have their roles worked out. :-)

ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Very clever fix.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect solution! It reminds me of the Louisiana architect, A. Hays Town.

What a great idea, Tina! I love the way those old shutters look on your door. It gives your entrance an old world look.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! It looks beautiful, too. My husband would also have been worried about the drilling. Safety always wins out, fortunately.
ReplyDeleteYou sure outsmarted Bruce and the results are most excellent. Great idea.

What a great and beautiful solution! Love those glass door knobs too. Finn is sad that he can't see out the front door too, but he lays by the sliding glass door and is master of the back view domain.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this solution, Tina!
ReplyDeleteGreat Make-Over Solution to solve a problem and keep the Bruce-nator protected.

Brilliant solution! The way I get Mr. Wonderful to do more around the house...I start doing it myself and then he feels guilty and takes over! It worked yesterday with weeding the flower beds with a garden claw..in the heat of the day, no less!
ReplyDeleteHa! A little spy. Well, that shutter on the front door idea is fabulous! Clever you!
ReplyDeleteLiz
