Incorporating a few trends into traditional Thanksgiving decor
is really a very simple process.
I love texture and you can see that I love it a lot.
Wicker, linen, plaid, Danni's dried bittersweet...
and embroidery.
I stitched up this feather pattern in a mixture of tan and blue
and added a quick initial to personalize it.
Pairing it with blue transferware ...oh, yes.
In another room, I added an embroidered tea towel on which I used non-traditional colors.
But these muted colors say autumn to me and I'm happy whenever I walk thru there.
This French quote is also embroidery- it is meant to be barely legible.
Suzan translated it for me a while back, but I don't remember what it says!
I really like it, anyway.
I'm not really one to let trends dictate what I like, but adding a few touches is always fun.
I'm fussy about what I don't like...why have it if you don't love it?
You will never see shades of purple or mustard in my house...no matter what the color of year is.
Sorry Pantone!
I have boxes and boxes of fall decor and I didn't open them this year.
I didn't need to.
These small touches did it for me.
The older I get, the more I value the things I choose to display.
And I am way past the decorating crazies of my thirties-
I'm exhausted just thinking of it all.
While I really loved doing it- and still do-
my priorities have changed and I must admit, so has my energy level.
I'd rather spend my energy elsewhere and I do have that full time job
of scratching Brucie's bum all day.
ALL day.
I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving.
Just let the feeling of gratitude wash over you for awhile.
We have so much to be thankful for.
While you're gathered around the table with family and/or friends,
take pause and remember that no matter how awful some of those people may be,
seating them next to Uncle Fester (and his brussel sprout burps) is pretty good payback.
Grab your pie, sit back and enjoy the show!
FYI-
I have closed The Keeping Room for the holidays.
I have some gifts I need to make and a few things I'd like to make for myself,
but haven't slowed down long enough to do it.
Thanks so much to all of you that bought my 'stitchins. ;)
I'll be back in January.
(If you have an embroidery emergency, shoot me a note and I may be able to help.)
