Time For Nutmeg Logs...

2 and 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
1 cup soft butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Stir the flour, salt and nutmeg together and set aside.
Cream the butter, gradually adding in the sugar until blended well and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla.
Add in the flour mixture and mix well.

On a slightly floured surface, shape the dough by hand, rolling into long ropes approx. ½ inch in diameter.  I usually end up with a 12 inch rope.  Cut into 2 inch pieces and place on parchment covered cookie sheet one inch apart.

Bake 12-15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.  Remove from cookie sheet and cool.

Frosting recipe:

Cream 2 tablespoons of softened butter.  Add 1 and a half cup of sifted powdered sugar and a splash of vanilla and beat until creamy.  (You can sub rum for the vanilla, but I prefer vanilla )

Frost the cooled cookies and sprinkle finely ground fresh nutmeg over the tops.

Makes about 66 small cookies.

Enjoy!

Don't blame me when you get addicted to these cookies.

Here's how it'll go down...

Oh, these are delish with my coffee.

I'll have one or two.

Oh, look at that- the frosting is messed up on that one.

I'll eat  take care of that.

Hey!  Who ate all the nutmeg logs????

And this is why we only make them once a year.

Mystery solved.

Sorry, Tootie.

I take back all that hooey I said about making them for Valentine's and Easter.

I don't think my jeans will make it.

The Sugar Shack must close.

(Is anyone buying that?)

  9. These nutmeg beauties are next up for review on my blog. I'm not a food blogger, I just pick random stuff from blogs to try! I'm also a fellow Liebster award gal today.
    Here is the link to where I will be reviewing these cookies;

  10. HELP! I'm making the frosting for the review on my blog and I'm wondering if the measurements you posted are right. Only 2 tablespoons of butter for 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar? Mine isn't getting creamy.
