Abalone and Love Bombs

Do you have stacks of mirrors?
No?
That makes me the only weirdo?
I know there are more than a few mirror hoarders out there.
Don't make me name names.

See my inspiration?

This mirror makeover was inspired by my abalone shell
and thanks to my current fascination with the purple paint,
I think it turned out beautifully.

It started out a soft sage green about 15 years ago.
To that, I added a smidge of duck egg blue, a citron green
and a burnt umber "drip".
Do you drip?
Watering down a burnt umber craft paint and letting it run
thru the cracks and/or the design of whatever I'm painting
is a favorite thing to do...from the olden days.
You remember them, don't you?
When we were just frazzled moms trying to get something painted
before the kids woke up from their nap?
Before the fancy waxes and dirty dirty uppers and the aging creams
that line the shelves these days?
I'm not touching anything called "an aging cream".
Just saying.

Well, I got tired of that mirror and put it away in the hell hole under the front stairs...
She has friends there, lots of them.
I cleaned out the closet recently,
and I remembered all the lost mirrors.
No, I didn't...I totally forgot about them.  But I found them again.
And I found that the mirror wasn't doing it for me.
It needed the purple paint. I swear, it really needed it.

So it could come out into the world again and feel pretty.
Maybe we all need a little purple?
Why are 5 year old girls the only ones that realize
this power of the purple?
They all know.
I think I had a purple room once,
back in the years that I can't remember.
Donny Osmond knew.  Prince knew.
Now I know again.
(You can picture a knowing smile on my face.)

Now on to the quote- the one in the test tube and glitter.
Do you know about Long Distance Love Bombs?

Just a regular guy trying to put good out into the world,
Jeremy wants to make kindness "cool" again.
I adore him and what he's putting out into the world.
He makes me think, he makes me feel, sometimes he makes
me cry because what he has written touched me way down deep
in that forgotten purple-ish soul of mine.
Some of you will love him, some of you won't.
He sometimes uses language that some of you will be offended by.
I hope you'll overlook it and see all the goody goody gumdrops
that this man is preaching.
This quote is fantastic and everyone should have it in their possession.
For those days.
You know the ones.

"Look closely.  Look harder.
Search the surprise in your eyes.
And when you see the one you need-
right there- right in front of you-
you'll learn at last that every mirror hides a hero."
-Long Distance Love Bombs-

Jeremy has been through some things.
That's where his wisdom comes from.
Go visit him sometime.
Be purple.
Or be Bruce.
The Thinker of Deep Thoughts.
But hero up for yourself, regardless.
That's the important part.

You may now return to your nap, Bruce.
The Boo of All That Is Good and Lovey.

I think I have more purpling to do.

  1. Looks gorgeous! Can't say that mirrors are on my list, but perhaps they should be. Ha!

  2. "The hellhole under the stairs" well no stashed mirrors but Simon's litter tray under the Laundry room steps. OH but not any litter tray - for our 22 lb. Panther a medium sized cement tray must do. I'm loving the Purple myself lately. Prince had Purple Rain ... Must of been dripping Purple paint down on himself. Yes Tina I am a dripper and a flicker. Enjoyed the quote, love the deep thinker Bruce.

  4. The mirrors are great but I LOVE Bruce. I have 2 rescued pit bulls that are my life. I will never have any other dog. They are the best.

  6. I think you've got us all wondering what's under our stairs, Tina. Your mirror is gorgeous and the touch of purple brings it to life. I'm sitting here in my purple jammies and our 3 year old granddaughter's favorite colors are purple and Ninja Turtles (I assume that means green). Lovely quote!

I'm still mucking things up with burnt umber paint. :o)

I want to be Bruce today. I've got a spot picked out on the living room sofa.

  7. I had a deep dark purple velvet dress when I was about 5. I loved it, wanted to wear it everywhere but of course my mom wouldn't let me. I think that might have been as deep as my fascination might have been for the color but I must of played with aging creams too much.

  8. Thanks, Tina.
    1. I just ordered a pile of feel good from Jeremy.
    2. 89% of my wardrobe from grades 5 to 9 was purple.
    3. Bruce still hasn't been to Wisconsin and he really wants to come up.

  9. Tina, you my dear are one of those great thinkers...
Love how your writing awoke my soul and the spirit in creating. You asked if we or any have stacks of mirrors? Well if you noticed in one of my new posted photos on the desk turned side table there is 3 mirrors stacked there alone, not to mention them scattered about my home and stored also in a closet.
What is it about odd mirrors we tuck away, but today they are coming out of the closet.

Love the colour and plenty of patina of paints that have washed over this mirror in all the rightness one could give to it. I love the subtleness, the hints of colour, and the fun you gave it using Purple. It feels a whole lot French to me! The wild growth of lavender fields.... And love it's use as a tray.

The bottled test tube containing the quote is great, but better yet I feel you could be doing the same or similar with your creative writing, and witty words that held our attention and drew us in. Thank you for the flash back of days of posters and singers so opposite yet loved them equally. Who didn't love and they called it Puppy Love, and Purple Rain.??

When I grow old and grey I shall wear purple.
Thank you for your beautiful words in your comment visit,my ou my dear encouraged my art and spirit.

    Have a beautiful day today.

    Xx

  10. I do clocks and owls...not mirrors, but I love where you're going with yours. I don't know this long-distance dude, but I'm checking him out. I'm thinking the language won't be an issue. Give Bruce a smooch from me.

  11. Love the depth and layers of your mirror. Sooo pretty. Pink and purple are colour cousins, and I think everyone needs more of them in their lives. Pink makes my heart smile every single day. It keeps me in touch with little girl me, and I don't ever want to lose her again. Love the quote. Jeremy is pure awesomeness.

  17. Hi Brucie: Or do you prefer BRUCE? You are such a funny boy. Tina, I don't drip - just saying..but I might have to try! Your mirror is so lovely and I had a scrumptious pair of purple open-toed shoes that I wore at least once a week to work with a purple blouse and black pants. Since I lost a couple of toes the look kind of got lost so I can't wear them anymore. Most stuff doesn't offend me, as you might have noticed, so am going to check out Jeremy. Have a Happy Week and where's my Jack? XXO Judy

  18. You made me laugh!!!! I have one of those under the stair areas but unfortunately it is a whole shed. I certainly remember those days of painting very quickly while the kiddos napped. Love your mirror Tina. The colors in it are amazing.
