The Porcelain Beauty

Isn't she lovely?  Isn't she wonderful?  Isn't my head full of songs at all times?

I adore her sweet face.

And her porcelain hands and feet.
She's wearing a bonnet and dress that Danni sent me.
Remember the collection of dresses that were drying in the trees?
And that perfect moment that I stepped backwards and landed in the pool?
Ah, good times!

She and her three brothers have joined us here at Casa Cuckoo
and they are just as sweet as she is.
I have to find them proper outfits before they make their guest appearance.

Now, I have been made aware that some of you (cough, cough, Danni)
are spooked by old dolls, but surely not this one?

I love her painted hair and all the wonderful crazing of the glaze.

Thank you, Martha...it must have been difficult to part with this beauty.
She's in good hands, I promise.

  1. Tina,
must say I'm one of those people who are creeped (sp)? out by dolls but will agree with you on this one, she has a very sweet face and I'm glad she lives at your house! I know she will have a loving "mommy" and a good home to live out the rest of her days!

  2. Jury's still out on whether China dolls are creepy. I know she has a good home, though, and maybe she'll turn out okay.

  3. She's sweet in the daylight, but make sure you lock your bedroom door when you're sleeping. Those eyes! Three brothers, too?!

  4. What an absolutely beautiful doll! She is gorgeous! I've only seen one doll ever that really creeped me out and that has been so long ago that I can't remember where it was...it may have been in Galveston, TX. Anywho....beautiful doll and beautiful outfit!

  5. Hi Tina,
I am not into china dolls but I have to say this one is pretty and not creepy at all. I know you will give her a good home. Happy New Week.

  6. Danni would have a hard time at my house - in the spring I display my collection of doll heads, arms, and legs on the living room mantel. I love this doll and her beautiful dress. I do not usually like complete dolls - only doll parts. Where are her brothers?

  8. Tina I've never gotten into dolls, after Barbie I don't know there wasn't a temptation. But I do have an adorable vintage rubber doll ( cute as can be and naked ) in my medicine chest which is huge. Cabinet not naked doll. She reminds me every day to remember the child within.
Don't think your's is creepy, pretty blue vivid bright eyes, very Victorian, actually pretty.

  9. These comments are cracking me up this morning! I too am creeped out by old dolls but I have to say this one isn't too bad. She's pretty and I love the old dress and the image of you falling in the pool is just too funny, hope you didn't get hurt... I look forward to seeing the brothers :)

  10. She is not creepy at all. She is very elegant and beautiful and would be even prettier if she had a pointy head! (That's coming from a Cottage Witch). Remember my doll that got her head cracked open during the Earthquake of '89? Well, if my kids and husband would have had their ways, she would not be sitting here and staring at me right now. Creepy? NAW! But if there were brothers, might have to change my mind..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  13. Such a treasure! My dear grandmother was a doll collector and ran a doll hospital for many years. Your new treasure is a delight.
